FUELhouse News! February 2023 Edition

Happy February! February brings lots of opportunities and reasons to celebrate. Today is the start of Black History month, tomorrow is Groundhog Day, soon it will be Valentine & Galentine's Day, and later this month we're inviting you to bring a buddy for a whole week to the gym! 

But first, a few tidbits surrounding Black History and Groundhog Day!

According to WomensHistory.org, in 1968, Shirley Anita St. Hill Chisholm became the first African American woman in Congress, and later (1972) the first woman and African American to seek the nomination for president of the United States. Her motto, "Unbought and Unbossed," (also the title of her autobiography) embodies her unabated advocacy for women and minorities during her seven terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. I think I'm going to add "unbossed" into my daily vocabulary  

Groundhog Day, a Bill Murray classic, was released in theaters in February 1993 (that was 30 years ago ). What else was going on in 1993? Billboard's top songs included Whitney Houston: "I Will Always Love you", Tag Team: "Whoomp (There It Is)", and UB40: "Can't Help Falling In Love." Other notable movies to watch were Jurassic Park, Sleepless in Seattle, and Free Willy. Also, Bill Clinton was sworn in as President of the United States. Ah, the 90's. 

Fast forward to the present. The last two years, Punxsutawney Phil (he's a groundhog) has predicted 6 more weeks of winter after seeing his shadow. Apparently, we'll find out tomorrow what Phil will predict after coming out of his hole:

  • Sees shadow = 6 more weeks of winter

  • Doesn't see shadow = Spring comes early

FEBRUARY 12TH-19TH

For the first time ever, current FH Members can gift a brand-new-to-FH buddy a FREE WEEK of Group Classes at FUELhouse!

Are you a FH member wishing to share us with your non-FH pals?⁠

⁠OR

Are you a PAL of a FH member curious about our fitness love boat?⁠

  • Between February 12-19th, we're giving your buddy a chance to train for FREE with FH! An entire 8 days of unlimited training!

  • To claim your spot, email Molly with your buddy's name, email, phone, DOB and we'll get them set up (Deadline: 2/10)

  • We recommend bringing your buddy with you to yoga on Feb 12th (9:30am) as their first introduction to our home!

  • After your 8 days we hope you fall in love with us and want to keep going!

    • If that's the case then you will speak with your onboarding coordinator about your next steps.

    • When you join as an official member, you will receive $50 off your first month's dues (and same with your referral buddy )

    • If you are recommended to take our Foundations course you will receive a 20% discount.

  • We will have modification options for those with little to no KB or BB experience.

Email Molly on or before Friday 2/10 EOD with your buddy's info and we'll get them all set up! Hooray for friends!!

Workout Tracking Challenge for the month of February 2023!

  • At the end of February, we will recognize our top 3 members who track their personal results in the ZP Workout Tracker, as well as like/comment on their buddy’s performance!

  • Each member will receive a $25 gift card to a local restaurant/retailer!

  • Check out this video to learn how to use ZP to view and track your workouts from your phone!

Climb the Columbia Tower March 27th with Coach Patrick!

~ TEAM FUELHOUSE CLIMBERS ~

Coach Patrick will be leading a team for the Big Climb up the Columbia Tower and wants you to join his team!  This is an incredible opportunity, not only to have a unique fitness experience, but also to raise money for a very important cause.  All the fundraising goes to cancer research and treatment through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. 

While 69 flights of stairs might seem daunting, everyone who has taken one of our group classes is capable of this feat. There is no need to be a speed demon, as this climb is all about pacing.

One thing to note is that this is first and foremost a fundraising event and there is a minimum requirement ($150). This can be raised after the event and will only impact future years participation.

Emma found us via class pass back in 2017 and she’s been dedicated to her practice ever since. She didn’t let her ACL surgery hold her back from safely coming back and gaining strength like a warrior. We are alway excited when Emma walks through the door. She’s an amazing member to have in class with you and she’s a delight to coach.
