February 2023 Member of the Month: Emma Barnett
Meet our February Epic Member of the month Emma Barnett!
Emma found us via class pass back in 2017 and she’s been consistent ever since. She didn’t let her ACL surgery hold her back from safely coming back and gaining strength like a warrior. We are alway excited when Emma walks through the door. She’s an amazing member to have in class with you and she’s a delight to coach. We’re so excited she’s bringing a human into this world and we cannot wait to meet her little one 😊 Here are a few things our coaches had to say about Emma:
“Emma’s the best and most badass for crushing ACL recovery! She always comes in wanting to see her friends here, and always wants you to come work out with her. She’s always up for a run and never complains about anything!” - Coach Kari
“Emma is always positive & ready to work! It was so great to witness her grit and determination in recovering from an ACL injury!” - Coach Brian
“Emma is a ROCKSTAR! I really appreciate her style and pizazz for life - especially in a the gym. She tries all the new classes, she works through injury with mods, and always has a positive attitude. Not to mention that she’s a badass mountain climber!!” - Coach Abbey
“Emma is a member who I LOVE working out with! She pushes herself so hard, its contagious!” - Coach Dre
“Emma has an amazing work ethic. Her attitude and dedication towards her strength training is infectious and I always enjoy the small moments in time I get to spend with her.” - Coach Kathryn

Name: Emma Barnett
Pronoun(s): She/her/hers
Occupation: Tech & Management Consultant
IG: @ejbarn
Where can you be found outside of the gym? What do you do for a living?
I work at a consulting company called Accenture, currently helping government clients implement technology solutions. When I'm not chained to my computer, I'm hanging out with my husband, Josh, and trying to enjoy all that the PNW has to offer!
What are your hobbies?
Hiking, camping, travelling, reading, walking, skiing, and watching crappy tv (I'm a serious bravo/real housewives fan!).
What brought you to FH in the first place?
When I first moved to Seattle I used ClassPass to attend different fitness studios. At the time, FH participated in the ClassPass program - I went to a few classes, and then I was hooked!
How are we so lucky you picked us (what are your favorite things about FH)?
There are so many things I absolutely love about FH! The people are probably my favorite thing - both the members and the coaches. The community at FH really is so unique and special; it's welcoming, supportive, and encouraging, and it has become such an important part of my day to day life.
What sports or fitness things did you do before FH?
I used to mainly go to cycling studios (soul cycle, flywheel) as well as yoga, barre, and pilates classes. I had never picked up a barbell and maybe never even a kettlebell before FH!
What programs are you currently involved in at FH and why?
I've been a group class attendee (shout out to the 5:30PM crew!) for my entire time at FH. I love the variation in classes throughout the week, and having the afternoon/evening class as part of my daily routine makes it easy to show up to work out.
What goals are you working towards and/or what’s on your FH bucket list of things you’d like to accomplish?
I'm currently 5 months pregnant so right now, my goals are to maintain some level of strength and movement before baby arrives!
What makes you commit to training even on days you don't feel like it?
FH is part of my daily routine. I know I will always feel better - emotionally and physically! - walking out the door after class than when I did walking in.
What's your favorite movement/exercise?
I secretly/not-so-secretly love when Abbey tortures us so much in Barre that it feels like your legs are going to fall off. I am also the only person at FH who absolutely loved leg blaster days during SnowStrong :)
What have been your “bright spots” (PRs or accomplishments are you most proud of)?
Getting Simple for the first time was pretty sweet...I never thought I'd be able to swing a bell that heavy! That said, getting Simple the first time *after* my ACL surgery was a really great milestone for me after a very long journey of PT/rehab.
How have these accomplishments affected your life?
I'm not a huge goal setter but I love being able to surprise myself with what I'm able to accomplish, in and out of the gym. And it always feels awesome to ring that PR bell!
What is on your general bucket list for life?
Travel! Current top of the list: Peru, Norway, Croatia, a return trip to Greece
Tell us a little known fact about yourself or what’s something most people don’t know about you?
My dream job is to be a travel agent. If you ever need an itinerary for someplace I've visited - let me know and I'll hook you up with an incredibly detailed and thorough google doc!
What's your favorite thing about being a FUELhouse member?
FH is my third place (er.... second place since I work from home?) - I just love the people and the community at FH.
What was your first impression of FH? How has that changed?
First impression: holy shit - everyone is so strong, so nice, but a little intimidating... Now: holy shit - everyone is so strong, so nice, and a bunch of goofballs :)
What advice do you have for new (or experienced!) new friends trying out FH?
Say hi to everyone and try to learn people's names! It's so nice when you hit that point of going to the gym to "see your friends" and is a really motivating factor for me.
