How Can We Live Better?
HOW CAN WE LIVE BETTER?
By cherishing one another.
The protests of the past week have highlighted for our FH TEAM,
The importance of reflection—to listen, to read, to question.
The importance of action—to unite, to participate, to discuss.
The importance of the continued work we must do to make our HOUSE safe by refining systems to pursue healthy growth and to meet the needs of of our diverse and EPIC community.
HOW CAN WE BE BETTER
Step 1: Going back to our core values is helping us identify how we can be better humans for our community.
Our company’s culture is shaped by our core belief ‘Through movement, we have the power to change lives’ and by our people, who are the key to the company’s success. We have great talents in our organization who work with immense passion to strengthen our brand and community. It is our people that bring our strategy to life and make the difference in achieving our long-term goals. At FH we are proud of our EPIC culture. In fact, we thrive off the fact that we are a family made up of unique and passionate individuals, surrounding each other with positivity and goal setting to achieve all that we set out to do in this life.
Everyone wants to be a part of something in life. When culture exists, community exists and trust exists. Who doesn’t want to be part of something EPIC like community? This is not just another catchy phrase, rather it represents the strong values each member of our team operates on. These values are embodied throughout our entire organization and are what set FH far apart from our competition.
EPIC means having the potential for greatness or extreme awesomeness. Greatness is nurtured through bravery, humility, wisdom, and virtue and every new member and employee who joins FH has the opportunity to become a vital part of our ever-growing, fun, and awesomely epic family. When you dive deeper into what it is that keeps our family together, happy and thriving, you’ll find that each letter of EPIC stands for a key value.
THE FH WAY:
The purpose of our core values is to help define the standards we hold ourselves to as an organization and as individuals at FUELHOUSE (FH). These values help define what is most important to us as a team and can be used as a guideline for making both large and small decisions for what happens at FH.
OUR COMMITMENT TO EXTREME EPICNESS:
EMPOWER: We strive to ignite a sense of strength, determination and success that contributes to a higher quality of life for others and ourselves. We strive to be our best self on and off the gym floor, driven by a belief that movement can improve lives.
PASSION: (people first): FH is more than just a gym, we build community and foster a lifelong love of our family. Our goal is to earn our members’ trust and respect through our high standards of professionalism.
INCLUSIVE: FH is a HOME for all, regardless of our backgrounds, beliefs, or identity. Our goals are to lead by example and provide support, outside of fitness, for our FH community in becoming more respectful, progressive and inclusive by nurturing the pillars of life that keep us grounded (health, wealth, hope/spirituality, career, fun, physical environment, relationships, giving, and personal growth). Working towards an inclusive environment allows us to do the most amount of good for the most amount of people and helps cultivate a dynamic and diverse community.
CULTIVATING GROWTH: Cultivating a growth mindset reflects our belief that we always have the capacity to improve personally and professionally. As a staff, we aim to continuously improve our understanding of movement and training practices. But, we also nudge each other to nurture the pillars of life, outside of fitness, that keep us grounded, which in turn improves our capacity as coaches. It is our belief that when our staff is constantly seeking opportunities to grow, all aspects of our operation improve, from classes and services to facilities and systems -- and most importantly, the experience of our members.
VISION: INSPIRE AND UNIFY ALL HUMANS
PURPOSE: to lead, grow, support and promote happiness and health
WORDS. WORDS. WORDS.
The question I keep asking myself: You can post, you can say all the things that you are going to do to take action to make FH even more inclusive and safe but what truly will you be doing 12 months from now for BLM, LGBTQ+ movements?
What matters is that we take greater action to make our HOME safe for all humans. We, individually and as a team, have always been dedicated to making small changes and improvements every day, with the expectation that those small improvements will add up to something significant. Like so many, we have our work cut out for us but, dammit, we are excited for what the future holds as we work on being 1% better each day.
For starters, Molly is participating in two workshops in the next two weeks and has offered to pay for FH staff to access any workshop or clinic related to the topics mentioned above. The goal is to work on refining our systems around our equal employment opportunity program and to educate all staff on our improvements regarding our company culture. Next steps are to bring in community educators for our team and membership to access free of charge. Stay tuned into our blog/newsletter as we continue to share.
