Members supporting Members: Spotlight on Kelly Brewer
Longtime member, Kelly Brewer knows a thing or two about mental health and we’re so honored to share her knowledge and info about her new business! She recently reached out about a study that was done about mental health and fitness. Here is the link to the research paper, here is the link to an article discussing the findings, and this is what Kelly had to say about it…
“Recent research has been published, finding that exercise (specifically strength training and circuit training like the awesome workouts Fuelhouse provides) has shown to be as effective as medication or psychotherapy for treating depression! Published in the British Medical Journal, the meta-analysis compared data from over 218 other studies. The study also showed what's called a dose-response curve, meaning that the effects of exercise were proportional to the intensity prescribed. Moderate, clinically meaningful effects were also found when exercise was combined with antidepressants or psychotherapy. The authors conclude, “Our findings support the inclusion of exercise as part of clinical practice guidelines for depression, particularly vigorous-intensity exercise,” proving what many of us have known for years... strength training is great for our minds and our bodies!”

“I am excited to announce the opening of Pacific Northwest Mental Health! We are a psychiatry clinic in Greenlake providing in-person and telehealth psychiatric care. We provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, and medication management to adults aged 18-65. I use a patient-centered, trauma-informed approach to team up with adult patients to assess their needs and formulate a treatment plan. My goal is to reduce mental health symptoms with minimal side effects. I am passionate about learning and science and only recommend interventions and medications proven through rigorous scientific studies. Medication can be a beneficial tool for many mental health concerns. Mindfulness and mind-body interventions such as breathwork and movement can also play an important role, and I share these strategies and practices with interested patients.”
