Member Spotlight: Jeffrey Schoemaker

December's Epic Member of the month is Jeffrey!

Jeffrey is a magnetic spirit and epic addition to our FH family. His attention to form is impeccable. He knows exactly when to push it and when to run his own race.  Just months after becoming a FH member (July 2021) he also participated in his first Tactical Strength Challenge in October! Please take a moment to get to know Jeffrey and be sure to throw out a high-five the next time you see him in class!

Name: Jeff Schoemaker

Occupation: Program Manager, Gaming

IG: @jeffexists

Where can you be found outside of the gym? What do you do for a living?

You can find me doing one of my hobbies below and hopefully traveling more soon. I’ve been a program manager for several years now and just made a transition to the gaming industry!

What are your hobbies?

Skiing, running, gaming, photography

What brought you to FH in the first place?

I was looking for effective group workouts in a positive community from knowledgeable trainers. I wanted to take my training to the next level, get stronger for ski season and running. Regular training keeps me sane.

How are we so lucky you picked us (what are your favorite things about FH)?

Great coaches and attention to form, injury prevention, promoting longevity.

What sports or fitness things did you do before FH?

General weight training, swimming, running, skiing, Ashtanga yoga, and an age ago… fencing.

What programs are you currently involved in at FH and why?

I am currently taking group classes regularly. I find that I push myself harder in a positive group setting. I like the variety in the workouts and that I don’t have to plan my own, variety keeps me engaged.

What goals are you working towards and/or what’s on your FH bucket list of things you’d like to accomplish?

FH bucket list, I would like to accomplish the “Simple” challenge before my birthday, and at the next Tactical Strength Challenge: Deadlift 400+ lbs, 100+ 24kg snatches in 5 mins, 15 pull ups.

What makes you commit to training even on days you don't feel like it?

I always feel better after exerting myself in class. I will get antsy if I skip too many days in a row. I like a consistent feeling of progression.

What's your favorite movement/exercise?

Turkish get up

What have been your “bright spots” (PRs or accomplishments are you most proud of)?

I attended my first Tactical Strength Challenge having no idea how well I would perform. I was happy with my results and know I’ll crush those PRs next time.

What’s on your general bucket list for life?

I would like to travel more, spend more time in my hobbies (especially photography), and find new hobbies.

Tell us a little known fact about yourself or what’s something most people don’t know about you?

I lived in Switzerland through college.

What's your favorite thing about being a FUELhouse member?

I feel engaged in the workouts and they feel complete. I am getting stronger without much down time from over exertion. The staff are friendly and provide effective feedback.

What was your first impression of FH?  How has that changed?

“Why are these people so happy? What the heck is a Turkish get up?” They’re still happy, now I’m happy and can do a Turkish get up.

What advice do you have for new (or experienced!) new friends trying out FH?

Take advantage of the variety of group classes and stick to a schedule.
