The FH Intramural Open is a fantastic way to build and bring our community of epic members closer. The focus is on inclusion and celebration instead of competition (though there’s a good bit of that, too).

OFFICIAL DATES:
FH Open lasts 5 weeks, from March 18 - April 23!

Just like we did in December 2020, we are dividing our membership into teams where you will be led, motivated, and kept accountable by Team Captains (a combo of FH Coaches and our March Fun Committee members) to participate in our first ever FH Intramural Open. You must be an “active” member to participate. If you are on hold and would like to be a part of this event just email us and we’ll hook you up! This is for both virtual and onsite members!

Our goals at FUELhouse are to educate and inspire.  Competition helps with the ‘inspire’ part: the pressure to perform pushes you to train harder; the social boost of dozens of your best friends cheering for you will help you reach a higher plane. Heck, watching your teammates GO is inspiring.

Every year, CrossFit HQ runs an event called “The CrossFit Open“. And every year, our friend, Chris Cooper, owner of CrossFit Catalyst and Ignite Gym, builds and improves upon the intramural idea thanks to feedback from hundreds of gyms.

To shake things up this year, with Chris’s guidance, we’re taking the idea and making it our own. We’re not interested in finding out how fast you can exercise against 400,000 other people worldwide. We ARE interested in helping you push to new levels in fitness, level up your life, and get 1000 high fives from your FUELhouse family.

WHY SHOULD YOU COMMIT?

At FH, we want to help you reach your fitness goals whether you want to achieve Simple & Sinister, lose 30 lbs, or run a faster 5k. That’s our mission, and our coaches show up every day to help you make it happen.

One key aspect serves as the linchpin for your success – consistency.

With only one to two workouts per week, it’s nearly impossible to see progress towards your fitness goals even if your nutrition is perfect, and you’re giving it your all in the gym. You should at least be aiming for four workouts per week to see noticeable gains. In fact, if you attend four or five classes per week for six months and follow our nutrition guidelines, we guarantee you’ll see results.

This event is a great test for everyone’s skills and fitness. This matters because it can reinvigorate your motivation, help identify areas of weakness to further set new goals, and even push you to a new PR!  Consistency gets even harder in the winter months. The cold mornings make it tough to get out of bed.  We want to help keep you on track whether you are a Home (Virtual) or Onsite (In-Person) Member at FUELhouse. 

The Open workouts are tough, but they are written so that any and every member can be successful. Meaning? There’s no excuse not to participate! And with our in-house intramural you can enjoy a fun, collaborative competition. It’s a fun way to bond with the community, find new training partners. We program the Open Workouts for all Friday classes anyway, so you might as well! Plus who doesn’t want to be a part of a kickass team with a little in-house bragging on the table?

You’ll have the support of all your favorite coaches and fellow athletes, with no judgment or worrying about being embarrassed. You will surprise yourself by doing more than you thought possible. Fitness is always better with friends.

THIS IS HOW IT WORKS
We’ll divide you up into four teams based off of a randomized draft where each team is made up of 2 FH Coaches and 2 FH Fun Committee members, and a funny name like “Flex Appeal” or “Hakuna Masquata”. You can earn points for your team by participating, winning a theme week, and showing the most spirit during events. After four weeks of intense, novel workouts, we’ll reveal the Mystery Event Five (Did someone say: “Parrrtaaay!”).

Our Open is a 5-week challenge consisting of a surprise Friday WOD. Each WOD has its own vibe, just like the workouts we do each week. The workouts will be released every Thursday evening during the five weeks, and you can watch the live announcement of the workout streaming on our private Member Facebook group.
After the workout is released, any athlete who has registered for the Open will have until 5 p.m. PST on the following Monday to submit their score to their team captain.

HOW WILL OUR RANDOMIZED DRAFT HAPPEN?
Once registered, your name will be added to our Draft List. On Draft Day, Friday March 12th at 5:30pm (via Facebook live/ZOOM), you’ll be invited to watch your name be pulled from a hat by your Team Captains. Unlike elementary school, EVERYONE GETS PICKED. Then, the Captains work hard to get you to participate in the best, most FUN event at FUELhouse. This year will have an at-home option as well.

REGISTRATION – Closes on March 3rd
$25+tax: includes FH Open tee/tank + automatic points for your team!

POINTS-
You will earn points weekly for attendance, participation, and team spirit. More details on point system will be revealed as we get closer to launch.

WORKOUTS-
Our Intramural Open will have 4 workouts; with a BONUS event #5 planned, which may take place at any time DURING the four weeks or up until a week after the last. We’ll complete the Open workouts during Group Fitness class time on Fridays. Reserve your spot (Virtual or In-Person) and show up on Friday to participate. Your membership gets you into the event (they’re just like regular workouts, but more challenging and fun.) The fifth event will be a freebie for anyone registered on any Intramural team.

PREPARATION-
For some of our members, the Open can be viewed as an annual measuring stick to test their improvements in fitness, similar to the purpose of our October Tactical Strength Challenge.

Our programming makes a slight shift starting NOW to get you READY for the demands of this competition!
We’re working on specialty programs available for those who want to improve one or two specific skills, too. In the meantime, if you’re dying to drill down the proper technique to get your best hang cleans, or link your kettlebell snatches, tell your coach and book a skill review session! We’ll get you some 1:1 time!

PRIZES-
We’ll have some random draws each week for prizes. The top team with the most points will be immortalized with their names on a banner hanging in the gym. We’ll also be recognizing best overall attendance between March 19-April 23th for top 3 individuals (this goes for virtual and in-person members)! There’s more but we can’t give it all away just yet!

Our focus is on FUN. We want you to participate because it will make you happier. You are ready to sign up because you are ready to flex the muscle between your ears and the muscles that make up your strong epic body. Commit to yourself, your team, and your community for the next 2 months and you WILL walk out of this happier than when you first walked in.
